Building an Air Command Elite 3203

The Air Command Elite kit comes with precut black anodized tubes wrapped in paper, some predrilled holes, lots of bags of nuts and bolts, and a book on what to do with all this stuff.

A. The kit is assembled in stages. The first phase "Sub-Assemblies" deal with drilling out holes and drilling new ones in the tubes, installing Insta-bushes, and deburring. Here are some pictures of this phase of the project. (Click Here)

B. The second phase is "Basic Assembly". Now you get to drill out cluster plates and attach the keels to the mast. Here is a picture of this phase of the project. (Click Here)

C. The third phase "Air Frame Assembly" is where the fun starts. You get to attach all the other tubes to the mast and keels. You also get to put the wheels on it and push your wife around the garage. Here are some pictures of this phase of the project. (Click Here)

D. Then we get to "Final Assembly I". Rotorhead, Brakes, Joystick, Push tubes, Steering linkage, Rudder, and Horizontal Stabs, get bolted up. This was all I could do in the garage, the gyro is now too tall. I did not get the folding mast option, but I should have. (Click Here)

E. Of course we have to have a "Final Assembly II". Engine, Rudder cables, fuel pump, switches, etc. I moved the gyro to a hanger and built a work bench there. (Click Here)

F. Then we can install the extra's we bought in "Options". Rotor Brake, Pre-Rotator, instruments and wiring. (Click Here)

G. Install the Prop.

H. Then the hang test, engine break-in, and adjustments.

Even thought I haven't posted pictures for installing the prop and the hang test, the gyro is finished and flying. (Click Here) for pics. Two club members, Danny Whitten and Scott Todaro have been test flying it for me, thanks to both of them. I strongly suggest letting experienced gyro pilots test out your newly built machine.
